After listening to Ysyry Mollvün, listening to Downfall of Nur was urgent and turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made in quite some time: Umbras de Barbagia is simply magisterial; the atmosphere can hardly be compared to anything else. There is a deep, palpable connection to nature imbueing each very fibre of this record. The amalgamation of black metal and folk elements is done with a high intuition for detail and class, resulting in a highly immersive experience. Wonderful.

Après plusieurs années de mise entre parenthèses, N Skog redonne vie à Ancient Tundra en lui offrant le single All Light Has Since Escaped Me et, comme si le réchauffement climatique faisait effet, divers éléments dont on ne soupçonnait pas l'existence se mettent à sortir de terre. Guitares électriques, percussions (programmées, c'est le seul défaut de ce single) et chants viennent se greffer sur le dark ambiant sylvestre. Malgré tous ces ajouts, c'est cohérent. La mélancolie est viscérale.

Equinox, split entre Ancient Tundra et Old Forgotten Lands, est une expérience de dark ambiant qui nous met entre chiens et loups. Bien que rétros, les atmosphères sont hypnotiques et chargées de mystères. Finalement, c'est dommage que le concept de l'équinoxe ne soit pas poussé jusqu'au bout et que le temps imparti pour les deux artiste ne soit pas équitable car N Skog finit par éclipser involontairement Elan O'Neal. En tout cas, les cinquante minutes sont certes lugubres mais très agréables.
